Imagine a Scandinavian Xmas scene with images of snowflakes, reindeer and traditional folksy patterns all knitted in wool. This image would seem like a Nordic custom dating back as far as the Christmas tree. In fact, it is the centre of a handicraft craze started in 2010 by Arne Nerjordet and Carlos Zachrison, and ignited by the publication of their best-selling book 55 Christmas Baubles and an appearance on Kirstie Allsops’ handmade Christmas TV show. The Scandinavian knitting duo are best known for their craft books and striking designs, highly influenced by their background and everyday life in rural Norway.
They are also highly regarded designers and textile artists . Arne and Carlos’ work is on permanent display in two museums in Oslo Norway, the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design and also the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. The two designers have collaborated with many prestigious international brands including the high end Japanese fashion brand label “Comme des garcons”. Today they design for and work closely with Rowan, Patons and Regia yarns.
